Tasty Local Gifts for Mothers Day

Looking to show a little bit of appreciation to mom and stuck for a quick but unique gift? We have a handful, and mouthful, of ideas for you that is sure to delight the senses. And better yet, they’re local.
Homemade Meal
Edmonton is home to several spectacular Farmer’s markets all laden with delicious local ingredients, treats and delicacies. From handmade perogies, fresh basil on margarita pizza, Kettle corn, Bison meat, fresh veggies and so many other delights that will make her mouth water. You have all the essentials for a great meal.
If you're more ambtious in the kitchen, check out local blogger The Kitchen Magpie for inspiration for a Mother's Day meal.
Freshly Baked
If there was caloric-fairness to the world, Mothers’ Day would be a “free consumption zone”. Let’s pretend it’s so because our great city has many wonderful bakeries steaming with deliciousness ... Some of our favourites are:
- Key Lime Tarts and Pain au Chocolate (or “the Duke”) from Duchess Bake Shop
- a fresh baguette with real butter from Dauphine Bakery and Bistro (formerly Queen of Tarts)
- Cinnamon Buns from Wild Earth Bakery
Olive You
Whether they’re almond stuffed, feta stuffed or one of the delectable marinated offices, olives from Olive Me on 109 Street at 85 Ave will make any olive lover happy. We’re dying to try the Gooch: Olives with Figs, Cashews, Cranberries & Almonds with a Balsamic Fig Marinade.
Cheese, Cheese, Cheese
Sigh... who doesn’t love cheese... especially from Paddy’s Cheese Market in the High Street shopping square. Canadian and European cheese plus some delicious meats. Visit them at 12509 102 Ave, Edmonton.
Fine Chocolate
Chocolate is the ultimate standby for mom’s day gift. But we’re not talking the kind that comes in fancy boxes and is not sold at drug stores, gas stations or in vending machines. We swoon over delectable, smooth fine chocolate where we’d take 2 nice pieces over 10 pounds of “the other stuff” any day. Sweet Lollapalooza chocolates or Jacek Chocolate Couture are local favourites.
Thank you to Chelsea McKay Hazewinkel for sharing the scoop on Tasty Local Gifts for Mother's Day. And a special congratulations and big welcome on becoming a mother. Enjoy your first ever Mother's Day Chelsea!
