On those busy days when you barely feel like you have time to breathe - let alone cook - having a stash of meals in the freezer can be a life saver. If you don't have the time or inclincation to try your hand at freezer cooking, Edmonton has several meal assembly services that will help you build a stash of yummy meals quickly

Cena To Go

At Cena you can make as little as 1 meal, or as many meals as your heart desires, and there are also several options for side dishes and baked goods. If you'd like to pick up pre-assembled meals to go, that service is available for an extra fee.
Location:  Broadmoor Boulevard, Sherwood Park
Price: Prices vary, but average is ~$30 per main dish, which works out to $360 for 12 meals (~$5.00 per serving)

Dashing Dishes

This meal prep company is unique in that, rather than having a single storefront, they operate out of local community centers. They offer sessions in Downtown, Southeast Edmonton, Southwest Edmonton,  Mill Woods, and Sherwood Park where attendees can put together ready-to-cook family meals.
Price: $250 for 12 meals (~$3.47 per serving)

Dinner Factory

In about 2 hours you can assemble 12 ready-to-cook family-sized entrees to be taken home to your fridge or freezer to be cooked at your convenience. Meal options at the Dinner Factory change monthly. They also offer a pick-up service, and even a delivery service for those who are too busy to visit them.
Location: 1 Hebert Road, St. Albert
Price: $329 for 12 meals (~$4.51 per serving)

Servings

Similarly to other services, Servings allows customers to book a calendar slot online, and then come in to assemble their meals from the choices on the monthly menu. Servings makes an effort to provide local ingredients (such as Alberta beef) wherever possible.
Location: Suite 30-4 Spruce Ridge Dr.,  Spruce Grove
Price: $298 for 12 meals (~$4.14 per serving)

Simply Supper

Choose an opening on the calendar, and peruse the monthly menu. In less than 2 hours you can prepare 12 ready-to-cook meals that feed 4-6 people. If you want to save even more time, for an additional fee Simply Supper offers a service that allows you to skip the assembly and pick up pre-prepared meals.
Location: Suite 1-2305 Rabbit Hill Rd NW, Edmonton
Price: $300 for 12 meals (~$4.17 per serving)

I have used Simply Suppers many times. We almost always love the meals, I love how they have everything laid out, and the pricing seems pretty good. It's so worth it!

After reading this article, I found and enjoyed meals by dashing dishes. However the ladies running it have stepped back and the franchise is looking for a new owner operator. With not having the overhead of a store to maintain, the prices were by far the most economical in comparison to the other options. I check back occasionally to see if they are back up and running! I miss the yummy meals!
