What To Do This Weekend in Edmonton with Kids | August 17 - 19

It's another jam packed summer weekend. You have a lot to choose from and the weather is going to be gorgeous. So get out there with your family and enjoy all that Edmonton has to offer.

Hot! Hot! Hot! 

Edmonton Latin Festival
What: The Edmonton Hispanic Cultural Society hosts live Latin music, dancing, and food.
Why: This free event is a great way to introduce culture music dance and song to your little ones.
Where: Sir Winston Churchill Square
When: Saturday, August 18 and Sunday, August 19, 2012. 12 - 11pm

Paddles Up!

Edmonton Dragon Boat Festival
What: Watch paddlers, a drummer and steerperson paddle their way across Telford Lake.

Why: Team chants, drums, beer gardens and stage entertainment.

Where: Telford Lake in Leduc (map) (moved from North Saskatchewan River due to water conditions)

When: Friday, August 17 – Sunday, August 19


Edmonton Fringe for Kids
The Fringe Festival kids zone with performances and activities for kids under 12.
Check out the new Tots Tent with activities for kids under 5. Full schedule.
104 Street between 85th and 86th Avenues (map)
August 17 – 26. Weekdays 9:30am – 5pm. Weekends 11am – 6pm.

Movie Time

Reel Family Cinema
Afternoon showing of classic films we all adore.
Why: Showing Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory this Saturday. Need I say more? Except that children under 12 are free.

Birthday Bash

Momstown 5th Birthday
A huge free birthday bash celebrating Momstown. 
Why: There will be bouncy castles, face painting, mini photoshoots, prizes, music, craft, snack, story time and Clifford the Big Red Dog. The first 100 attendees will receive a gift bag by Todays Parent.
Where: Rundle Park, 2909 113 Ave. (Park in the far west lot and head towards the Family Centre.)

Art Adventures in Abstraction

All Day Sundays
A family-friendly day at the gallery featuring hands-on workshops, exhibition tours and activities that make the AGA come to life.
Create your own abstract painting and sculpture.

IBAF Women’s Baseball World Cup
Eight counties bat-tle it out for baseball gold.

Events in Spruce Grove

Grove Cruise
What: A three-day automobile focused party.
Why: Go for the pancake breakfast, parade, show and shine and the drive-in movie showing Cars 2.
Where: Spruce Grove, Henry Singer Park and other locations.
When: Friday, August 17 to Sunday, August 19, 2012.

Kids Carnival & Corn Roast
This Grain Elevator fundraising event features balloon animals, pony rides, face paining, a petting zoo, games and crafts.
Why: Go for the corn. Yum.
Where: Spruce Grove, 120 Railway Avenue. (off of HWY 16A)
When: Saturday, August 18, 2012. 12 – 6pm.

Events in Sherwood Park 

Strathcona County Library Annual Book Sale
What: Pick up some great deals on gently-used books, CDs and DVDs. Hardcovers $1, Paperbacks and children’s material $0.50.
Why: You get books for your own library while supporting the purchase of new materials for the library. 
Where: Strathcona County Community Centre, 401 Festival Lane, Sherwood Park
When: Friday, August 17 from 9:30am - 8:30pm. 
Saturday, August 18, 9:30am - 4:30pm
