Fort Saskatchewan Christmas Marketplace

What To Do With Kids This Weekend In Edmonton | November 14 - 16, 2014

With the snow and the Christmas lights up downtown it’s definitely feeling more like Christmas. This weekend marks the start of all the holiday events – arrival of Santa, light-ups, craft shows. 

 

Christmas on the Square Holiday Lightup
What:
Live music, carolers, balloon artists and at 6:30pm Santa waves the magic wand to light up the giant spruce tree. A fantastic fireworks display follows. Bring a donation to the Edmonton Food Bank to help fellow families.

Books 2 Buy

Santa On Parade

Annual Jingle On Parade
What: 
A warm and colourful parade featuring festive floats, marching bands, mascots dancers and, of course, Santa in his sleigh.
Why:
Who doesn’t love a parade? Especially one inside on a chilly snowy weekend! 
Where:
Edmonton’s downtown pedways starting at Commerce Place, to Manulife Place and through City Centre Mall from The Bay (West side) to SportChek (east side). All on the second/ pedway level.
When: Sunday, December 2nd, 2012. 10am - 12pm 


Deck the Halls

Festival of Trees
What: Beautifully decorate trees, a North Pole Post Office, cooking decorating, and a special Secret Shop for kids only where volunteers will help them complete their holiday shopping (nothing is over $5).
Why: This festival is more than holiday fun; it is raising funds for the Critical Care Unit at the University of Alberta Hospital.
Where: Shaw Conference Centre, 9797 Jasper Avenue. Adults $7 Youth/ Seniors $3
When: November 29 – December 2nd, 2012.

Tip: Avoid taking a stroller. Wheelchairs combined with strollers makes for long elevator lineups. Seriously took us an hour for the elevator ride last year. Wear your child, plus they’ll be up high and able to see the displays better.


A Whyte Christmas

Santa Saturday
What:
Hop onboard Santa’s wagon and take a ride while admiring the eight animated window displays along the avenue.
Why:
 Take a ride, stop for hot chocolate and do some local holiday shopping along Whyte Avenue.
Where:
Whyte Avenue. Catch rides from the Old Strathcona Farmers' Market and from the parking lot across from the Keg on 105 Street and 81 Avenue. {Route}
When:
Saturday, December 1, 8, and 15. 10am – 3pm 

 

Local Loves

Royal Bison Craft & Art Sale
What: Two rooms filled with locally made clothing, jewelry, art, photographs, bags, prints, poster, toys and, sigh, more glorious treats.
Why:  The must-not-miss show of the season. Truly unique, locally made works of art.
Where: 8426 Gateway Boulevard (north of Strathcona Farmer’s Market) $2 admission. Kids free.
When: Saturday December 1 10am–5pm and Sunday, December 2, 12–5pm

Chocolate Lovers Tip: Kerstin’s Chocolates is still alive and will be available at the Royal Bison. Be still my beating heart.

 

Poetic Performance

'Twas the Night Before Christmas
What:
A narrated ballet of the classic poem by Edmonton Festival Ballet.
Why:  A perfect family outing. Only an hour in length.
