Block Party
What: Ronald McDonald House Charities® Northern Alberta is hosting a block party to thank and celebrate the community for it’s support. We went last year and had so much fun playing games, listening to live music, touring the house and checking out the fire truck. Bring a donation from their wishlist and show your kids how they can help other families.

"It Takes a Village" Family Picnic
What: A community picnic with lunch from the Italian Centre Shop, activities from J’Adore Dance and SportBall Edmonton, an art project from 4Cats Art Studio and more.  Brought to you by Edmonton’s Child Magazine and Box Social Event Planning.

Lads on the River Weekend
What: Help welcome back the York boat and the Hudson Bay Company workers to the river shore. Their arrival meant the reunion of families and the continuation of trade. Learn about the history and activities surrounding their arrival.

What To Do In Edmonton This Weekend With Kids | July 10 - 12, 2015

It looks like it's going to be a great weekend to pull out the kiddy pool, visit a spray park or explore the many great events happening in Edmonton. Check out the list of happenings below, let me know what I mised and share with your friends. More the merrier!

(JUST ADDED) Sourdough Raft Race
What: The time honoured tradition of sending rafts down the river along with a major water fight is back for its 56th year. Start the morning with a Toonie Pancake Breakfast served at Terwillegar Park at 9:00AM then find a place along the river to watch the race. 
Where: Terwillegar Park and then along the North Saskatchewan River to Rafter's Landing. 
When: Sunday, July 12, 2015. Rafts launch at 12pm and finish around 3-4pm.  

 

20th Annual Whyte Avenue Art Walk
What:
Over 450 visual artists will bring their art supplies and art works out into the streets creating an outdoor studio and gallery spanning several blocks. This is a great way to discover Alberta's hidden talent, add to your own art collection and show your children artists in action.
Where:
Along Whyte Avenue (82 Ave) from 101 Street to 108 Street, plus green spaces.
When:
July 10 – 12, 2015. 10am – 5pm.

 

Historic Festival & Doors Open Edmonton 

What: Last weekend! Visitors can explore museums and historic sites, participate in heritage activities such as tours of buildings, gardens, natural areas, and neighbourhoods. See the full schedule. There are many free tours to explore.
Where: Multiple locations around metro Edmonton.
When: July 5 - 12, 2015.

 

Edmonton International Street Performers Festival 

What: Last weekend! Ten days filled with amazing buskers – acrobats, contortionists, stuntmen, comics, dancers, clowns and more. It’s an affordable opportunity to inspire the love of performing arts in your children. Check out the Kids Corner with performances, play and activities for the young and young at heart. (11:30am – 6pm)

Celtic Gathering
What:
Be part of the biggest Celtic celebration of the year. Cheer on pipers, drummers, highland dancers and Heavy Games competitors as they fight for the top spot.

Saturday Morning All-You-Can-Eat Cereal Cartoon Party!
What:
Enjoy a 3-hour trip down memory lane with a tribute to the eye-popping, brain-addling Saturday morning cartoons from the 60’s – 80’s, complete with a smorgasbord of delicious sugary cereals.

Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb
What:
 Larry spans the globe, uniting favorite and new characters while embarking on epic quest to save the magic before it is gone forever. Common Sense Media rates it ideal for 7 yr olds.
Where:  North/ South/ Windermere Cineplex Theatres in Edmonton and Galaxy Cinema in Sherwood Park.
Admission: This movie is part of Cineplex’ Family Favourites series so it’s only $2.50 admission.
When: Saturday, July 11, 2015. 11am.

Summer Market in Chinatown
What:
Explore Chinatown, one of Edmonton's hidden gems, with its vibrant shopping, dining and cultural bonding destinations at this event. There will also be a children’s activity area, yummy food, and live entertainment.

Track Town Classic
What:
The must see track & field event in Canada. It features Canada’s best athletes competing against the best competition from around the World. Go watch athletes that may be competing in the 2016 Olympic Games!

Feats Festival of Dance 
What: This dance festival features a variety of performances and classes. Families may enjoy Bach Tots, Once Upon A Season
takes families back through Alberta’s heritage, in a pioneer themed show set on a farm. An array of barnyard animals play through the season. Saturday, July 4, 2015 with 45 min shows at 10:30am and 1:30pm at Sugar Foot Ballroom (10545 -81Ave). $10 per family (cash at the door).

Sand on Whyte 
What: Some of Whyte on Ice artists are back carving sand this time for the third annual sand sculpture exhibits.

What: Edmonton hosts the first ever Canadian Junior, Senior and Para Track and Field Championships with 2000 athletes.

What: A historical 14th century tournament with knights clad in real plate & mail armour in melee combat, prizes for best costumes, dance performances, face painting and medieval market.

Mainstreet Cruisers Car Show
What:

What:
Help plant 1000 trees and have some fun. Be a treeathletes and race 0.5 km or 1 km to plant and water a tree. Doug Hoyer, and Jesse and Dandelions will provide musical entertainment, while Attila the HUNgry food truck will be available for grumbling tummies. Other activities include nature tree games, display tables, crafts and the Tree-via Sticker Challenge.
