Royal Bison Art and Craft Fair
What: The ultimate Edmonton indy art and craft fair.  Admission $3. Kids are free.

Edmonton Bike Swap
What: Pick up bikes for the family, or sell your out-grown ones, at this annual one day bike buy & sell. Admission is $2. Kids under 12 are free.

Ben Calf Robe Annual Traditional Pow Wow
What: The Pow-Wow will feature a variety of dancers, drummers, craft and food vendors. There is no cost to attend. Organizers recommend bringing your own chairs.

Mother’s Day at the Zoo
What: A nice family activity for mom’s day. Human moms will be pampered with mini massages and manicures while resident animal moms will be getting special enrichment treats. Kids will enjoy magic shows, airbrush tattoos, animal encounters, planting activities, and live music

Seasons Greetings! It's a tremendously busy weekend for family-friendly Christmas events in the Edmonton region. The hard part will be choosing what to do. Here are a few suggestions. Feel free to add more in the comments below!

 

Candy Cane Lane
What: More than 10 city blocks of decorated homes and holiday music playing in the winter air. Beautiful sights and sleigh rides are available during the evenings.
 Please bring a food bank donation.
Where: Along 148th Street, starting at 100th Avenue.

Rejoice
What: All six ensembles in the Kokopelli Choir Association—from the youngest to the oldest—will perform a joy-filled winter concert celebrating holidays around the world.

The Nutcracker
What: The holiday classic returns to Edmonton this weekend. Go an hour early for the Sugar Plum Party where girls and boys can play dress-up with costumes from the Nutcracker, make a craft and listen to the story before seeing the ballet.

Festival of Lights Family Fun Night
What:
A spectacular exhibition of artistic light installations within the unique setting of the Edmonton Valley Zoo! There will be winter crafts, ice skating, fire dancers, airbrushed tattoos, and a visit from Santa.

North Pole Christmas

On The Spot Pop-Up

A Prairie Christmas
What:

World Animal Day
What: Learn about the Species Survival Plan (SSP) for endangered species at the Zoo. There will also be cupcakes, face painting, animal games, and more!

Edmonton Corn Maze

Edmonton's diverse arts, culture and community is obvious this weekend. From Folk Fest to Rock Music Festival. From Cariwest to Ukrainian Days. From cars to crafts. Plus a good dose of community building and support. Aren't we lucky to live in such a vibrant city?!

Cariwest Festival
What: A three day Caribbean Arts Festival with a Saturday parade costume extravaganza, fabulous food, live concerts and Caribbean Village in the Square. 
Where: Downtown Edmonton: Sir Winston Churchill Square, Shaw Conference Centre, and parading the streets.
When: Friday, August 9– Sunday, August 1, 2013.

 

Rock’n August
What:
This five day international car show is an annual favourite. Families will particularly enjoy the Friday night classic car parade and street dance. As well as the Saturday's Show 'n Shine.
Where: St. Albert. Various locations.
When: Tuesday, August 6 – Saturday, August 10, 2013.

 

RMHNA Block Party
What: A fun family fundraising event for Ronald McDonald House Northern Alberta (RMHNA). Enjoy kids crafts, games, activities and BBQ, including coke floats. Suggested donation $5 per person. Make sure to go on a scheduled House Tour to see the toy room, classroom, suites, nursing/pumping rooms and community kitchen.  Experience the home away from home.

Bicycle Parade - Eva’s Ride
What:
Decorate your bike, trike or scooter and join in Eva’s Ride to celebrate family and to raise funds for RMHNA to support sick children and their families who are visiting Edmonton for treatment and care. Loving Kindness Buddha Relic Tour
What:
A once in a lifetime opportunity to see an exhibit of ancient and sacred relics of the historical Buddha, Shakyamuni, and other great Buddhist masters from India, Tibet, Korea and China. Some are over 2500 years old.

Edmonton Rock Music Festival

A great line up of rock & roll music happening in the park. Bands include Tom Cochrane & Red Rider, Harlequin, Kim Mitchell and six more.  Kids <12 are free.

Ukrainian Day
What:
A family celebration of the Ukrainian pioneer spirit. Go early for a pancake breakfast then enjoy historic village activities, a food festival, children’s games and entertainment.

Twoonie Carnival
What:
Go for the petting zoo, bouncy house, BBQ, carnival games, crafts and face painting. Funds raised go towards a new spray park in South Terwillegar.

Police Station Opening
What: The Windermere police station is opening and to celebrate they’re holding a community event with EPS displays, balloons, face painting, cake and refreshments.

It’s a very artistic weekend in #YEG. Fine art, live art and handmade goods all up close and interactive. You’ll enjoy meeting Edmonton’s makers, being inspired by their creativity and finding gems to take home with you. On Sunday, head to the river valley for the annual Sourdough Raft Race and the Zookeeper's Festival.

Edmonton International Street Performers Festival
What: This is the last weekend to see amazing buskers – acrobats, contortionists, stuntmen, comics, dancers, clowns and more.
Where:  Sir Winston Churchill Square, Edmonton

When: Friday, July 5 – Sunday, July 14, 2013. 11:30am - 11pm (except July 14 which ends at 5pm)

Mercer Collective
What: This great monthly local makers market is adding a free kids craft table. Hooray. Something for the kids to look forward to and a lovely distraction for you so you can shop.

Whyte Avenue Art Walk
What: Whyte Ave is transformed into an outdoor studio and gallery featuring hundreds of working artists. A fabulous way to buy original art and support local talent.

When: Friday, July 12 to Sunday, July 14, 2013. 10am – 5pm

Sand on Whyte
What: Three of Ice on Whyte’s talented, award-winning artists, Delayne Corbett, Wilfred Stijger and Edith van de Wetering are creating the first ever sand carving exhibit in Edmonton.
Where:  Old Strathcona. South Scona Parking lot at 81 Avenue and 105 Street.
When: July 7 – 14, 2013. 10am – 10pm.

CANCELLED - Sourdough Raft Race 2013
Due to river safety concerns, this event is cancelled for Sunday.
What:
Edmonton’s well-known river raft race is back. Go early for a pancake breakfast, get a free kite and fly it, make a mini raft then watch the race from your favourite viewing point.
Where: North Saskatchewan River from Terwillegar Park to Rafter's Landing

When: Sunday July 14, 2013. 8:30 am – 5 pm. Race begins at noon.

National Zookeeper Week Celebration!
What: Thank you to the dedicated to the hard working zoo keepers at the Edmonton Valley Zoo. Go on a scavenger hunt, make a snake craft, pretend to be a prairie dog, get up close with animals and play games.

Freewill Shakespeare Festival
What: Shakespeare the park is one of the nicest way to spend an afternoon. This weekend they’re performing A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Saturday matinees are pay-what-you-will.
