What To Do With Kids This Weekend In Edmonton | November 8 - 9, 2014

Rutherford House Remembers
What: Rutherford House is recognizing women’s experience during World War I who remained at home in Edmonton. See what went into oversea care packages, what type of socks were knitted for troops, read letters from war time, and even sample a war budget meal.
Where: Rutherford House, 11153 Saskatchewan Drive
When: Sunday, November 9, 2014. 12pm – 4pm.


Mom to Mom Shop and Swap
What: Fun for both parents and kids. 200 vendors in the pregnancy, baby, child and family sectors including swap tables, selling pre-loved children’s clothing and items. Plus a kiddy corner with bouncy castles, face painting, and free photos with Santa.
Admission: $5. Proceeds go to WeeHelp Foundation.
Where: University of Alberta, Butterdome 115 Street and 89 Avenue.
When: Saturday, November 8 and Sunday, November 9, 2014. 10am – 3pm. 

Tip: Go early to get one of the swag bags and wear babies to make it easier to get around.


Canadian Finals Rodeo
What: The most hardcore cowboys, cowgirls & animals of professional rodeo ride into Edmonton.
Where: Rexall Place, 7515-118 Avenue
When: November 6 – 9, 2014.


Farm Fair International
What: Go country. Be entertained and educated with heavy horse pulls, breed shows, a large market place and a Kids Country area. Saturday is also the 4-H Day.
Where: Edmonton EXPO Centre, 7515-116 Avenue
When: November 5 – 9, 2014.      


Preschool Picasso
Preschool Picasso offers creative art-making experiences in an art studio setting for children aged 3 - 5. This Saturday’s class is “Floral Art Fun” where kids will make a unique vase and flowers out of a wide variety of fabulous and fun materials. Register in advance.  Cost $10.

Edmonton Home and Garden Show
What: Friday is Family Day! Bring your tots by for a fun-filled afternoon. The first 100 parents will receive a grab bag. Visit the child friendly features at the Main Stage including:  kids crafts, cooking, face painting, tattoo artists and make sure to play in the Hudson Park Playground.
Admission:  Adult $15 at the door. Free admission for children ages 12 and under. Use coupon code HGTV and save  $5 online.

Science FunDay

World Animal Day
What: Learn about the Species Survival Plan (SSP) for endangered species at the Zoo. There will also be cupcakes, face painting, animal games, and more!

Edmonton Corn Maze
This year’s maze is a tribute to ATB’s 75th Anniversary. Kids will love the massive jumping pillow and friendly animals. Bring your camera for great fall photos.

Cariwest Festival
What: A three day Caribbean Arts Festival with a Saturday parade costume extravaganza, fabulous food, live concerts and Caribbean Village in the Square. 
Where: Downtown Edmonton: Sir Winston Churchill Square, Shaw Conference Centre, and parading the streets.
When: Friday, August 9– Sunday, August 1, 2013.


Rock’n August
This five day international car show is an annual favourite. Families will particularly enjoy the Friday night classic car parade and street dance. As well as the Saturday's Show 'n Shine.
Where: St. Albert. Various locations.
When: Tuesday, August 6 – Saturday, August 10, 2013.


RMHNA Block Party
What: A fun family fundraising event for Ronald McDonald House Northern Alberta (RMHNA). Enjoy kids crafts, games, activities and BBQ, including coke floats. Suggested donation $5 per person. Make sure to go on a scheduled House Tour to see the toy room, classroom, suites, nursing/pumping rooms and community kitchen.  Experience the home away from home.

Bicycle Parade - Eva’s Ride
Decorate your bike, trike or scooter and join in Eva’s Ride to celebrate family and to raise funds for RMHNA to support sick children and their families who are visiting Edmonton for treatment and care. Loving Kindness Buddha Relic Tour
A once in a lifetime opportunity to see an exhibit of ancient and sacred relics of the historical Buddha, Shakyamuni, and other great Buddhist masters from India, Tibet, Korea and China. Some are over 2500 years old.

Mercer Collective
What: This great monthly local makers market has free kids crafts so you can shop while your kids create.

Edmonton Rock Music Festival
A great line up of rock & roll music happening in the park. Bands include Tom Cochrane & Red Rider, Harlequin, Kim Mitchell and six more.  Kids <12 are free.

Ukrainian Day
A family celebration of the Ukrainian pioneer spirit. Go early for a pancake breakfast then enjoy historic village activities, a food festival, children’s games and entertainment.
Where: Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village. Located 50 km east of Edmonton on Hwy 16.

Twoonie Carnival
Go for the petting zoo, bouncy house, BBQ, carnival games, crafts and face painting. Funds raised go towards a new spray park in South Terwillegar.

Police Station Opening
What: The Windermere police station is opening and to celebrate they’re holding a community event with EPS displays, balloons, face painting, cake and refreshments.

2013 Western Canadian Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships
What: This competition is the largest competition in Western Canada and is a qualification event for the Canadian Championships in Ottawa.
